The Kogi House of Assembly has reversed its resolution declaring Lokoja I State Constituency seat vacant following the defection of its lawmaker, Alhaji Umar Imam, from the APC to the SDP.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the reversal followed the adoption of a motion moved by Majority Leader, Hassan Bello, on the floor of the House at plenary in Lokoja on Wednesday.

Bello, while raising the motion, had recalled that the seat was declared vacant through a resolution of the House on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, following the defection of Imam, a former Speaker of the House.

He also recalled that the House had invoked Section 109 (1) (g) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 As Amended, to declare the seat vacant.

“When we did that, we were of the opinion that it was wrong for Imam to have defected from the APC that sponsored his election into the House.

“But since Imam has returned to the APC and corrected that mistake, he deserves to take back his seat,” he said.

Seconding the motion, Ahmed Mohammed (APC/Ankpa I) confirmed that Imam had reconciled his differences with the APC and was fully back to its fold.

NAN reports that the Speaker, Mr Matthew Kolawole, had earlier read a letter from Imam and another from the state chairman of APC, Abdullahi Bello, intimating the House of the former Speaker’s return to the party.

This, Bello said, was after three month sojourn with the SDP.

Kolawole, after a voice affirmation adopting the motion, directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the reversal of the Aug. 7 resolution to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

NAN reports that Imam defected from the APC on July 22, citing division in the political fold as his reason for jumping out.

Ondo: APC group accuses Akeredolu’s aides of destroying Buhari’s bill boards

Published

A support group of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo state on the aegis of Solidarity Group, has accused governor Rotimi Akeredolu of using his supporters to destroy all the re-election bill boards of President Muhammadu Buhari across the state.

The group also warned the national leaders of APC not to depend of both governor Akeredolu of Ondo state and his counterpart in Ekiti state, Kayode Fayemi, in mobilising support for the President’s re-election bid in the South-west.

In a statement signed on Sunday in Abuja by the Nationa Coordinator of the group, Comrade Gbenga Bojuwomi, said an investigated conducted by his group, Ondo APC solidarity group, revealed that the said clampdown on Buhari’s re-election images “started on 11th December 2018, when some touts and NURTW members loyal to governor Akeredolu were seen assisting the Ondo state Signage Agency in removal and total destruction of president Buhari billboards even as they chanted anti APC songs.”

The group also stated that several allegations of anti party activities have been raised by by a group known as Mandate and Solidarity groups in Ondo state about the governor Akeredolu allegedly test running Action Alliance (AA).

The group expressed surprise that despite those allegations against the governor “up till now both the presidency and APC have not seen any sense in it. Mr Akeredolu has therefore ordered the state agency signage to remove and destroy any Buhari poster or bill board found in all the 18 Local Government of Ondo state,” it alleged.

While cautioning the party againt anti party activities, the griup stated that “its high time APC and presidency wake up from their slumber as we also gathered that Akeredolu and governor Fayemi of Ekiti state who are on daily basis destroying Buhari in the south-west were the party’s best choices to lead Mr president campaign in the region, this is outright failure for president Buhari in southwest.

“Both Akeredolu and Fayemi do not even have enough clout to mobilize for elections in their families not to talk of leading the entire region for Mr president. To before warned is to before harmed,we have said our own on several occasions.”

2019: Jimi Agbaje finally reveals why he dumped Tinubu

Jimi Agbaje

Jimi Agbaje

Jimi Agbaje, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos state, has given reason why he left the camp of the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement on Saturday, Agbaje said it was based on differences in principles, as he took exception to the rule of one man dictating how Lagos should be governed.

It would be recalled that Agbaje parted ways with Tinubu in 2007 to join the Democratic Peoples’ Alliance (DPA) as its governorship candidate.

“I take exception to the rule of one man in a metropolitan state like Lagos.

“I have no personal rift with him (Tinubu). What exists between us is all about differences in value and principle. When we were together, I discovered that his own idea of democracy was not what I was taught, so I had to take an exit.

“I am saying that what we are running today in Lagos is a one-man Lagos. A Lagos where somebody says when he is going to bed, Lagos is going to bed, to me that can no longer be tolerable. Lagos must be made to work for the people of Lagos,” Agbaje said.

In addition, he said the ruling APC was foisting “opaqueness in public spending,” pointing out that, it had refused to open up its activities to the people of the state who were not getting value for taxes they paid.

“It is unfortunate that Lagos State under the control of the APC has refused to domesticate the Freedom of Information Act. Everything in government in Lagos State is shrouded in secrecy. The time has come to hand the fortune of the state over to the people.

“Seven trillion naira is what the state government has spent in the last 20 years, and what have we got to show for it? If you look at the average for education in Lagos, only 20 per cent of our children have passed WAEC in five years. The question is, are we getting value? The answer is, we are not getting value at all,” Agbaje said.
