Farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State led a high-powered state delegation on Saturday, November 8, 2025, to the colourful and glamorous turbaning ceremony of the Speaker of the State Assembly, Abdulmalik Sarkindaji, and other prominent personalities.
The ceremony took place at the Emir of Borgu’s Palace in New Bussa and was a key event marking the 10th anniversary of the Emir, Dr. Mohammed Sani Haliru Dantoro Kitoro IV, on the throne.
Speaker Sarkindaji Turbaned as Dokajin Borgu
Speaker Abdulmalik Sarkindaji was conferred with the traditional title of Dokajin Borgu. Among other prominent sons of the Borgu Emirate and beyond who were also turbaned were a retired Assistant Comptroller General of Immigration, Ahmed Tijani Mohammed, as Ubandawakin Borgu, and Engineer Iliyasu Abdullahi Wara, Director of Operations at the National Hydro Power Producing Area Development Commission (NHYPPADEC), as the District Head of Lumma.
High-Profile Attendees and Community Service
The event drew prominent personalities from various sectors, including a Federal government delegation led by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi. Also in attendance were the Senator representing Niger North Senatorial District, Senator Abubakar Sani Bello; members of the House of Representatives; the APC National Vice Chairman North Central, Alhaji Muazu Bawa; and the Niger State APC State Chairman, Alhaji Aminu Musa Bobi, alongside other political and traditional leaders.
Following the ceremony, Governor Bago joined other worshippers for a special prayer session dedicated to the continuous success of the Emir of Borgu and for sustained peace and prosperity across the Kingdom, Niger State, and Nigeria as a whole.
The Farmer Governor further demonstrated his commitment to community development by commissioning two blocks of classrooms constructed by the Mohammed Sani Haliru Dantoro’s Foundation. He used the occasion to commend the Emir for his relentless efforts toward contributing meaningfully to the growth and development of the Borgu Emirate.
Governor Bago reaffirmed his administration’s continued support for the Emir and pledged sustained service delivery to the people of Borgu Kingdom and all residents of the state.
