The Kano Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has dismissed two judges and suspended six other court staff over alleged misconduct.
The disciplinary actions were announced on Sunday, November 10, by JSC spokesperson Baba Ibrahim. According to Ibrahim, the measures come after thorough investigations into various allegations of professional misconduct.
Magistrate Nasir Ado was found guilty of conducting court sessions without recording the proceedings, which the commission says is a serious breach of duty. Following the decision, he was removed from the judicial service.
“The commission adopted the JPCC’s recommendation, noting that Nasir Ado’s actions constitute gross misconduct. Accordingly, he has been recalled from judicial duties,” Ibrahim stated in a press release.
Another judge, a Sharia court judge, Yusuf Kawu, was also dismissed after being found guilty of improperly releasing a convicted criminal. According to the JSC, Kawu bypassed the required procedures.
Apart from the dismissals, the JSC issued suspensions and warnings to several other staff members. Magistrates Sanusi Atana and Alkali Abubakar Abdullahi were given official warnings for going beyond their legal authority. Such overreach, according to the JSC, could create confusion and unfair judgments, further damaging the judicial process.
Among the non-judicial staff penalized was Finance Registrar Salisu Nayola, who was forced into early retirement for reportedly soliciting bribes. Court messenger Shuaibu Bello received a four-month suspension without pay due to corrupt practices.
