The Southern Kaduna Christian Leaders Association, on Thursday, said it is embarking on two days of dry fasting, praying to God for the swift release of all 177 Christians abducted from villages in Kajuru Local Government Area.
Recall that kidnappers stormed Mali village and neighbouring communities on Sunday, abducting 177 worshippers during church hours.
Although the Kaduna State government initially denied the abduction during an expanded security meeting, it later confirmed the incident following careful investigation and appeals from the families of the abducted victims.
Following this tragic event, the association, in a statement signed by its chairman, Apostle Dr. Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, expressed deep sorrow, describing the abduction as heart‑rending, alarming, and unacceptable.
According to the statement, the abduction marked the first time in the region when members of three different Christian denominations were abducted in a single day during church services.
It further stated that the abduction of Christians in Kajuru added to the growing number of abducted Christians across Southern Kaduna, particularly in Kauru, Kachia, and other vulnerable communities, where families continue to live in agony over the fate of their loved ones.
“We believe in God and right now we will embark on two days of dry fasting and prayers for the quick release of our members who are already in captivity,” it said.
The statement urged the state government and relevant security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted victims.
