To improve the quality of grades fro candidates, the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has announced a new process to allow senior secondary students resit their WASSCE examinations papers.
This disclosure was made by WAEC’s Head of Public Affairs, John Kapi, on Tuesday, December 31, 2025, on a JoyNews’ AM Radio Show in Ghana.
Kapi said the initiative marks a paradigm shift from the system where students would be required to wait for the next cycle of examination to have the opportunity to make up for their papers.
Stating that the new process will be known as WASSCE PC1, Kapi said it gives the candidates an opportunity to fast-track their admission process and improve their grades.
His words, “Students who access their results now and realise they need to resit one or two papers have until 8th January to register online through our website or at WAEC-accredited internet cafés. The exams will take place from 24th January to 15th February 2025.”
He also said that in helping candidates prepare for their exams, the release of the chief examiners’ reports would be expedited.
According to him, the reports will provide a detailed feedback that students can rely on to improve their study pattern and examination process.
He said, “We’ve advertised this programme widely through banners, our website, and our results checker platform to ensure that both students and parents are aware.”
Those eligible to resit their WAEC papers include candidates who did not make their grades and those who their results were cancelled.
However, those who have been banned due to malpractice of any form are not eligible to resit from their examination papers.
“For now, the exams will be conducted in regional capitals due to the limited number of candidates. Prospective participants are urged to complete their registration by the 8th of January to take advantage of this opportunity,” Kapi added.
