Tinubu to Visit South-South, South-East in May — Presidency Reveals

‎The Presidency has announced that President Bola Tinubu will visit the South-South and South-East regions on May 12, 2026.

‎Minister of Works Dave Umahi disclosed this on Monday after inspecting the Abia section of the Aba–Port Harcourt Motorway and the Eleme axis of the East-West Road in Rivers State.

‎He said the visit is intended to inaugurate projects expected to be completed by April.

‎Umahi added that the Federal Government has stepped up work on major highway projects across the South-South, with several key routes scheduled for commissioning by the President during his May tour of the regions.

‎Among the projects is the 43-kilometre dualisation of the Aba–Port Harcourt Highway, a vital economic route linking Abia and Rivers states, which officials say will be substantially completed by April.

‎The former Ebonyi State governor noted that the project, handled by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), is about 90% complete.

‎He stressed that the road project had been stalled for years due to funding challenges before the current administration intervened.

‎According to him, the contractor has now finished over 90% of the Aba-bound carriageway after being directed to focus resources on one side to speed up delivery, assuring that outstanding payments worth billions of naira would be settled within weeks.

‎“They remain responsible for any section of the road for twelve months after completion. If it fails, it is their responsibility to fix it.

‎“But so far, I am satisfied with their work, and I want them to complete it by April so we can present it for Mr President to commission on May 12 when he visits the South-East and South-South,” he said.
