Tinubu meets PDP chieftain Sule Lamido in Kaduna

President Bola Ahmed has met the former governor of Jigawa State and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido, in Kaduna State.

In a viral video sighted by reporters, the two politicians were seen exchanging pleasantries at Sultan Bello Mosque in Kaduna on Friday, September 19, 2025.

Tinubu is on a one-day visit to Kaduna to attend the wedding ceremony of Nasirudeen Yari and Safiyya Idris during the visit.

Nasirudeen is the son of a former Zamfara State governor and incumbent senator representing Zamfara West, Abdul’aziz Yari.

Tinubu, during the visit, is also expected to pay a courtesy visit to Aisha, the widow of former President Muhammadu Buhari, at the Buhari family’s residence in Kaduna.

Meanwhile, while the meeting between President Tinubu and Sule Lamido isn’t political, it is expected to generate conversation in political circles, given Lamido’s long-standing role in the opposition party.

Lamido has been one of the major critics of Tinubu’s government. In July 2025, he accused Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of exploiting institutions to undermine democracy, resulting in widespread insecurity and instability in the country.

He lamented that these actions have led to a breakdown in unity and trust, emphasising that a country cannot move forward without trust among its components.

He expressed deep concern that the prevailing situation has eroded unity and trust, which are essential for national development.

“The way the federal government and the president and the APC are using state institutions in destroying democracy, they are crushing opposition through intimidation, through blackmail, and harassment to compel government patronage”

“The good example is Okowa, I mean, a very clear example. This is somebody who was PDP’s running mate in the last elections. And from nowhere I know, they started giving him a kind of charge of 1.3 trillion naira.”

“He was sent to the EFCC. And then, somehow, behind the scenes, he found himself back in the APC. And then, suddenly, there is no more EFCC, no more FCC.” Lamido stated in an interview with journalists.
