Tinubu appoints ex-Lagos commissioner as MD of Nigeria Railway Corporation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has named Dr. Kayode Opeifa, former Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, as the Managing Director of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC).

The appointment, according to a statement from the presidency, was based on Opeifa’s extensive expertise and his impactful contributions to transportation reform in Nigeria.

The statement noted that as Lagos State Commissioner, Opeifa implemented transformative policies that significantly improved public transport and traffic management, laying a strong foundation for the state’s urban development.

Before his appointment, Opeifa was serving as Transport Secretary for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Dr. Opeifa gained prominence during his tenure as Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, where he spearheaded transformative initiatives that modernized the city’s transport sector.

With this new role, Dr Opeifa is expected to lead the modernisation of Nigeria’s railway network, a crucial component of the country’s economic growth.
