The name Kabiru Onimisi Attah is not a strange one in Egbira land. His penchant for education took him to study abroad, a place he now resides with his household. It is still his unending love for education that is making me to herald his name once again. He is the founder of a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) christened PROJECT SECOND CHANCE FOUNDATION.
On the 2nd of February, 2025, I wrote a post seeking for help from the public on Facebook and it was titled: SHE HAS GOTTEN AN ADMISSION BUT WHERE IS THE FUNDS? The story revolves around Grace Oyiza Samuel who successfully gained admission to study Chemistry at the Federal University, Lokoja (FUL). For many weeks after she gained the admission, she was stranded. She was like a fisherman with a net but no available river for her to harvest fish(es). God so kind, a former colleague of mine at the defunct Social Investment Programmes (SIP) in Lokoja heard of her predicament and decided to tell me about it. As much as I wanted to be of help I was not financially vibrant to do that. I promised Femi Agbana that God helping me I will source for this girl’s school fees. I had much faith in what I said as I knew the fate of this girl is not for her to drop out of school for the lack of money. Permit me to say that till now I have not seen Grace Oyiza Samuel face to face. I do not know her from Adam. We have only talked on phone.
Swiftly, I took the matter to my Facebook page and some godly sent persons started dropping their widow’s mite. The total money she got within a week stood at 38k. Some of those who sent her money forwarded the transaction receipts to me. Grace Oyiza Samuel also sent the alerts of all the money she received totalling 38k. I kept praying, hoping and nursing faith with her even though I know how hard it is to come by money in this season of economic hardship entangling us as Nigerians.
On Sunday the 16th day of February, 2015 at about 6:10 p.m. my WhatsApp popped with a message on my phone. Lo and behold! The message was from Kabiru Onimisi Attah. He paid the whole school fees of this damsel directly to the portal of FUL and forwarded the receipts to serve as evidence of payment. I stood transfixed to where I was seated. All I could send to him as a message when I came back from the shock was, “I am short of words sir. God bless you.”
Kabiru Onimisi Attah as well as others who parted with the little they had to gather the school fees of Grace Oyiza Samuel have shown clearly that there is still hope left for humanity. They all know that all fingers are not equal. They refused to belong to the league of some of the people that called me to ask me and even talked badly about how irresponsible the parents of the girl were. I remember telling one of them that may lack never visit his home. Do we really understand what it means for a man or woman to agree for his or her matter to be brought to the public sphere? It clearly means that they have searched for help without getting any and therefore agreed that they may likely curry favour from the public. There is nobody that runs to me to use my social media accounts to render any assistance that I will not ask to include their phone number(s) as well as their bank account details and even the house address. The same goes for Grace Oyiza Samuel.
In rounding up, I want to still appreciate our brother for taking the lead to salvage the plight of Grace Oyiza Samuel. We can boldly say that in the next 4 years Kogi Central, Kogi State and Nigeria at large will have Grace Oyiza Samuel as fresh graduate of Chemistry. Thank you so much for behaving like good mothers who will speedily run towards their crying child. You and others who have allowed the tears of joy flow from the eyes of Grace Oyiza Samuel will remain evergreen in the heart of God. Thank you.
