Sokoto Assembly approves N38.8bn virement in amended 2025 budget

The Sokoto State House of Assembly has passed a further amendment to the 2025 Appropriation Bill, approving a virement of N38.8 billion as requested by Governor Ahmed Aliyu.

The approval followed the presentation of a report by the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, delivered by its vice chairman, Kabiru Ibrahim (APC, Kware), during plenary on Wednesday in Sokoto.

Ibrahim explained that the amendment to Appropriation Law No. 12 of 2025 was aimed at funding critical infrastructure projects and social services across the state.

The leader of the assembly, Bello Idris (APC, Gwadabawa North), backed the request, noting that the adjustment was necessary to accommodate ongoing projects.

“There is the need to modify the budgetary provisions; hence, the amendment to the Appropriation Law No. 12 of 2025,” Idris said.

Also speaking, Abubakar Shehu (APC, Yabo) described the amendment as a demonstration of the administration’s commitment to improving citizens’ welfare.

After deliberations, Speaker Tukur Bala put the motion to a voice vote, which was unanimously adopted.

In a related development, the assembly also passed two amendment bills, one revising the College of Nursing Science, Tambuwal Law, 2019, and another amending the Sultan Abdulrahman College of Health Technology, Gwadabawa Law, 2023
