Simi breaks silence on claims she gave up her career for marriage after welcoming twins

Popular Nigerian vocal-powerhouse, Simi, for the first time addresses claims that she gave up her career for marriage.

The singer reacts after welcoming twins with her husband, Adekunle Gold. Note that recently Simi and Adekunle Gold, also called AG Baby celebrate 7th wedding anniversary.

Recall that Simi and Adekunle Gold welcomed their first child, a daughter named Adejare Kosoko (fondly called Deja), on May 30, 2020.

Taking to his Instagram page today, January 23rd, 2026, Simi shares a moment from her studio session from last year, 2025, when she was recording a song with singer Chike.

In the new song titled “Where you dey” featuring singer “Chike” that was released today, Simi shares the snippet, stressing that she had hoped to release the song last year after teasing it with a snippet. However, she explained that completing the project became extremely difficult due to health challenges she was experiencing at the time.

According to the singer, she was constantly sick, weak, nauseous, and exhausted, describing the period as a “blur.” She noted that even during the recording of the snippet video, she was not feeling well and was simply pushing herself to give her best despite her body failing her.

Simi also spoke fondly about collaborating with fellow singer Chike, describing her deep admiration for his voice and artistry. She said she was certain he was the perfect fit for the song and praised his professionalism and commitment. Although Chike was initially out of town, she disclosed that he came to her studio the very next day after returning, unaware that she was pregnant and struggling physically at the time.

Reflecting on the recording process, Simi expressed surprise at the level of energy she displayed in the studio, admitting she could hardly recognize herself when watching the video afterward. She further revealed that after the song was completed, she faced difficulties mixing and mastering it due to her condition, adding that she eventually decided to master the song herself despite her dislike for the process.

The singer admitted she was disappointed about missing her planned release deadline, especially as fans had grown attached to the song and were eagerly anticipating its official release. She explained that her lack of strength also affected her ability to promote the song properly, noting that she barely remembered parts of the video shoot.

Despite the setbacks, Simi emphasized that the song was created with immense love, resilience, and determination. She appealed to listeners to embrace the track for what it is and give it the energy she could not fully invest at the time.

In a pointed closing remark, Simi addressed critics who claim she abandoned her career for marriage, stating that the song stands proof of her continued dedication to her craft, while dismissing such narratives altogether.

Reacting to the video, Chike confirms that Simi has welcomed twins, as he commeted;

“This was so much fun and I definitely did not know the twins were in the room 😂❤️❤️❤️🎉.”
