Sen. Umar-Kumo dumps PDP

Published

on

Sen. Saidu Umar-Kumo, the Campaign Director of Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo in 2015 governorship election has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Umar-Kumo said at a news conference in Gombe on Monday, that he is no longer a member of the party.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the senator, a former National Secretary of the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), said he had not decided yet which party to join.

“I want to inform the general public especially members of the PDP in Gombe State, Northeast and Nigeria at large that as from today I am no more with the PDP, I withdraw my membership from the party.

“I will formally write to my local government office of the party, the state and the national headquarters of my decision.

“Before then, let the general public know that I have withdrawn my membership from the PDP, I am no more with the PDP from today.

“ I hope my leaving PDP will create opportunity for others who think maybe my presence in PDP in Gombe in particular is that I am not doing well to them,” he said.

Umar-Kumo said that he had no problem with the party at the state and national level, but with the state governor.

“What I discovered is that the governor of the state doesn’t need me in PDP.

“They do everything humanly possible to get me out of PDP through him, especially he and his subjects.

“Those who think I am a stumbling block to certain things in the PDP in Gombe state let me give them the chance.”

According to him, he is yet to decide on which political party to join.

“I am not declaring for any political party now, I want to take my time to study the political arena, I want to study the other political parties existing to see which I will join,” he said.

Reacting to the development, Umar Suleiman, the state Commissioner of Information denied that Umar-Kumo was pushed out of PDP by the governor.

“As far as we are concerned nobody pushed him out of the party, maybe he has his own mission behind his withdrawal”, he said.

2019: Jimi Agbaje finally reveals why he dumped Tinubu

Jimi Agbaje

Jimi Agbaje, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos state, has given reason why he left the camp of the National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement on Saturday, Agbaje said it was based on differences in principles, as he took exception to the rule of one man dictating how Lagos should be governed.

It would be recalled that Agbaje parted ways with Tinubu in 2007 to join the Democratic Peoples’ Alliance (DPA) as its governorship candidate.

“I take exception to the rule of one man in a metropolitan state like Lagos.

“I have no personal rift with him (Tinubu). What exists between us is all about differences in value and principle. When we were together, I discovered that his own idea of democracy was not what I was taught, so I had to take an exit.

“I am saying that what we are running today in Lagos is a one-man Lagos. A Lagos where somebody says when he is going to bed, Lagos is going to bed, to me that can no longer be tolerable. Lagos must be made to work for the people of Lagos,” Agbaje said.

In addition, he said the ruling APC was foisting “opaqueness in public spending,” pointing out that, it had refused to open up its activities to the people of the state who were not getting value for taxes they paid.

“It is unfortunate that Lagos State under the control of the APC has refused to domesticate the Freedom of Information Act. Everything in government in Lagos State is shrouded in secrecy. The time has come to hand the fortune of the state over to the people.

“Seven trillion naira is what the state government has spent in the last 20 years, and what have we got to show for it? If you look at the average for education in Lagos, only 20 per cent of our children have passed WAEC in five years. The question is, are we getting value? The answer is, we are not getting value at all,” Agbaje said.

2019 presidency: SDP chairmen reject Jerry Gana, vow to vacate ruling against Donald Duke

Published

on

The forum of the 36 state chairmen of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has rejected the court order issued by Justice Hussain Yusuf which declared Prof. Jerry Gana as the presidential candidate of the party and sacked an ex-governor of Cross River State, Mr. Donald Duke, as the SDP standard bearer.

In a statement made available to journalists on Saturday in Abuja, which was signed by the forum’s Chairman; Hon. Oke Idawene and Secretary, Abubakar Dogara, they described the court ruling as “an act of gross injustice unconstitutional, and null and void”.

The statement reads in part: “the Party shall abide by the unanimous decision taken by the party’s delegates and the mandates of the 36 State Chapters and the FCT when they convincingly and overwhelmingly voted for Mr. Donald Duke in the October 6th October 2018 national presidential primaries of the Party.

“That mandate given to Donald Duke as the party’s presidential candidate is sacred, supreme and so remained sacrosanct as the will and ultimate decision of party members and leadership which no court can abort.

“The Forum said it will use all available legal and judicial process to protect its mandate and ensure that the will of the people prevails.

”We wish to use this medium to assure the general public, especially party members to remain calm and steadfast in their support and goodwill for the party and its presidential candidate towards the actualization of the vision of the Party to rescue Nigeria through the 2019 General elections.

“The SDP is working within the ambiance of the law to vacate the order of the Abuja court where Prof Gana is trying to pervert and arrest justice through his unlawful claims.

“Against this backdrop, our legal team has filed an appeal against the order of the High Court at the Appeal court in Abuja.

“Therefore, we want to appeal to all party members across the country to continue with their party activities and campaigns with utmost decorum, decency and orderliness.

“We shall communicate to all our members, details of our campaign programmes in the days ahead.”

The runner up in the 2016 All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship primary in Ondo state has alleged that some youth are planning to attack his witnesses.

Abraham, in a statement issued to journalists in Akure, the Ondo state capital, on Friday, emphasized that the threat was as a result of his case at the Federal High Court in Abuja over what he described as the controversial 2016 governorship primary election of the APC, adding that the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris has been notified of the threat.

Recall that Abraham, who came second during the 2016 primary election, had accused the incumbent governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of manipulating the process, after which he dragged him to the Federal High Court in Abuja, where there is pending litigation as to the authentic winner of the primary.

In the statement, Abraham alleged that his witnesses are being threatened by those he described as sponsors of the state government.

“We are surprised that those of us, who ought to be in the same political party, are threatening each other over a case that will reshape the APC in Ondo State for good.

“But I have pleaded with my people to allow us embrace a system that will usher in a true democratic value to the people as we await the verdict of the court over the pending case.”

While urging all his supporters to eschew violence, Abraham also alleged that there were plots to harass and arrest his followers.
