Sanwo-Olu reaffirms commitment to fairness as Oworonshoki residents receive compensation

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fairness, transparency, and the protection of residents affected by the demolition of structurally unsafe and environmentally hazardous buildings across Lagos State.

The governor assured that every displaced resident would be duly resettled and compensated.

Sanwo-Olu gave the reassurance during the presentation of the second phase of cash compensation to members of the Oworonshoki community whose properties were recently cleared in accordance with state environmental regulations.

Represented by the General Manager of the Lagos State Urban Renewal Agency, LASURA, Oladimeji Animashaun, the governor emphasised that the state remains devoted to safeguarding the rights of all Lagos residents to own property, even as it continues efforts to remove structures that threaten public safety and the environment.

He noted: “When we commenced this exercise, 79 affected persons received their cheques. Today, an additional 100 people are being compensated. Governor Babajide Olushola Sanwo-Olu made a commitment that no one impacted by this process would be abandoned. This is a promise made and a promise fulfilled.”

Sanwo-Olu added that the latest disbursement is part of a continuous process, stressing that more affected residents will receive compensation in subsequent rounds.
