Reps visit Kebbi over abductions of schoolgirls, seek tougher security action

A delegation of the House of Representatives has visited Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, to commiserate with him over the abduction of 25 students from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, who led the delegation, expressed deep concern over the attack, describing it as a disturbing development in a state widely regarded as one of the most stable in the North.

Abbas said the incident had shocked lawmakers across the country, noting that he considered Kebbi a “second home” due to his long-standing relationship with the state.

He stated that the visit was to demonstrate solidarity and assure the people of Kebbi that the National Assembly stands with them.

He praised Governor Idris and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ongoing efforts to tackle insecurity, saying the abduction was a setback but also a reminder that leaders must intensify the fight against criminality.

He described the attack as unfortunate and said both the federal and state governments, alongside security agencies, were working relentlessly to secure the release of the abducted students.

He restated his concern over the withdrawal of soldiers from the school shortly before the attack, noting that insecurity remains a major threat to development and requires stronger collaboration at all levels.
