“Public office is not for profit-making or personal gain” – Gov Okpebholo warns appointees

‎The governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo has issued a warning to all leaders in civil and public service spaces across the state to ensure they embrace discipline and teamwork to achieve measurable results.


‎Okpebholo gave the warning while speaking at the opening ceremony of the three-day orientation and leadership retreat for top government officials at the Udomi Townhall in the Esan Central Local Government Area on Monday.


‎According to the governor, public office is not a platform designated for profit-making or personal gains but for development through the high performance of staff.


‎The governor in a statement issued by Patrick Ebojele, his Chief Press Secretary, Patrick Ebojele, said his administration is driven by strict performance and accountability.


‎He also said that he is focused on engagement that strengthens governance and sustainable development in the states


‎“We are gathered here today not for a jamboree, but for a purpose. This retreat is designed to serve two purposes: orientation and capacity building for top government officials.


‎“I charge civil and public service leaders in Edo State to embrace discipline and teamwork to achieve measurable results and to let you know that this administration is driven strictly by performance and accountability,” Okpebholo said.


‎Further stated that the initiative has been structured to reposition the administration for effective service delivery, improve partnership across ministries, departments and agencies, and deepen understanding of governance processes.


‎“Our administration is driven by a clear vision of the SHINE Agenda. This vision is practical governance that delivers results.

‎“I want to repeat my warning to you. Public office is a call to service, and not for profit-making or personal gain. Every naira we spend must deliver value and every policy must produce measurable results,” Okpebholo warned.


‎In addition, the governor informed the appointees that their performances in the course of his tenure would be monitored and measured for accountability and delivery of all expectations of the people of Edo State.
