Aggrieved members, especially youths, of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State have taken over the streets of Mopa, Mopa-Muro Local Government Area of Kogi State, demanding that the party’s House of Assembly primaries be conducted under a free, fair and credible atmosphere.
The protest, according to press findings on Thursday, made the APC primary be put on hold over the fear of a breakdown of law and order in the local government by the aggrieved party members.
Newsmen gathered that trouble started when news filtered in that the local government chairman, Sunday Moses Alumo, has ordered that materials meant for the exercise be diverted to his personal residence.
This, according to sources in the party, made enraged party members swing into action immediately by barricading roads and threatening brimstone and fire.
They allegedly accused the council boss of being biased, noting that he already had an anointed candidate to pick the APC ticket in Mopa-Muro.
Newsmen further gathered that the vehicle conveying the council boss and a serving House of Assembly member were blocked by the enraged APC members.
A leader of the party, who spoke with Newsmen under the condition of anonymity, appealed to Governor Yahaya Bello and security agencies to wade in to forestall the breakdown of law and order.
He pleaded that Governor Bello prevails on the local government chairman to take the election materials to the secretariat, instead of his personal residence.
A resident, Lekan Abiodun, confirmed that the materials have been moved to the police station in Mopa while the rampaging youths have divided themselves into two groups to stop any undemocratic move.
