Presidential election tribunal: Sam Amadi seeks live broadcast, gives reason

The Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts, Sam Amadi, has claimed the presidential election petition tribunal is a public interest litigation, insisting its hearing should be transmitted live to the public.

In a tweet on Monday, Amadi said, “the issues are not just about private rights of candidates and parties”.

Earlier reported that the presidential election petition tribunal commenced proceedings in Abuja on Monday.

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and his counterpart in the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, are challenging the declaration of Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner of the February 25 presidential poll.

Meanwhile, Amadi said, “there ought to be live transmission of the hearing.”

He wrote, “Presidential election petition is a public interest litigation. There ought to be a live transmission of its hearing because of the political nature of the case.

“The issues are not just about the private rights of candidates and parties. It is also about the public interest of voters.”
