It’s important to stand up for justice ⚖️ and defend people who are innocent under the law.
But when someone has clearly committed an offence, the right path is either to resolve it legally or allow the courts to take their course.
When VeryDarkMan (VDM) was involved in the case that led to B’Lord being sent to Kuje prison, I may not have liked how their dispute played out, but if B’Lord broke the law, then he has to face the consequences or pursue a lawful settlement.
I respect Omoyele Sowore, not because he’s perfect, but because he has consistently shown commitment to securing justice for people who are unjustly detained and he often gets results.
However, this seems like a situation where he may have misjudged things by stepping into a case where wrongdoing appears evident.
He has built a strong reputation over the years, and engaging in a public clash especially in a matter tied closely to legal processes risks undermining that credibility.
Taking on VeryDarkMan in this context may not have been necessary, especially given VDM’s tendency to escalate conflicts publicly.
Now, it appears the situation is affecting Sowore’s image, with critics and even supporters questioning his stance, while bloggers push narratives that may not fully reflect his intentions.
He’s even having to clarify his past, including distancing himself from claims about political alignments with APC during the era of Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari.
Advocacy requires balance. Fighting for justice doesn’t mean defending every case, especially when there’s clear evidence of wrongdoing.
It’s about knowing when to intervene and when to let the legal system do its job. That’s a line Deji Adeyanju seems to be navigating more carefully now, supporting justice while respecting the law.
Though it’s actually not unusual for lawyers to appear on different sides of related matters or even play multiple roles depending on who retains them.
A lawyer’s duty is to their client at any given time, not to a fixed “camp.”
So the same legal practitioner could be involved in initiating a case and later in negotiations or processes that lead to bail or release, especially if circumstances change or different legal strategies are employed.
What I don’t quite understand is this: how can VeryDarkMan’s lawyer who was instrumental in the process that led to B’Lord being sent to Kuje and having close relationship with him now also be involved in facilitating his release through Omoyele Sowore?
What game are they playing?
