PMAN Suspends President Pretty Okafor, Names Sydney Sparrow Acting President

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has suspended its National President, Pretty Okafor, with immediate effect.

in a statement signed by the National Treasurer, Hon. Baba Ojonugwa, the decision was taken at an emergency NEC meeting held on Wednesday to address serious leadership and constitutional issues within the association.

The NEC said the suspension will remain in place while a full investigation and disciplinary process is carried out, in line with the PMAN Constitution.

According to the council, the action followed repeated breaches of the constitution, abuse of office, disregard for due process, and conduct said to be harmful to the welfare and credibility of the association.

The NEC listed several concerns, including the appointment of vice presidents without council approval, the removal of the elected National Treasurer after calls for financial audits, failure of the National Working Committee to perform key duties, intolerance of opposing views, and alleged irregularities linked to a joint venture involving PMAN property in Abuja.

As part of its resolutions, the NEC voided all unilateral appointments, reinstated the National Treasurer, and approved the commencement of a forensic audit of PMAN’s accounts and joint venture agreements.

The council also nominated Sydney Sparrow, the PMAN Governor for the FCT, as Acting National President, in line with constitutional provisions.

PMAN assured members across the country that the steps taken are corrective and aimed at restoring transparency, accountability, and good governance, while protecting the interests of Nigerian musicians.
