The newly elected president of the National Council of Women Society (NCWS), Hajiya Lami Adamu Lau, has identified “lack of implementation” as major reason laws on violence against women have not been seeing the lights of day.
Lami who made this known on Friday in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State at an award dinner organised for her by the Women and Children Health Empowerment Foundation, WACHEF, believed that the problems of the country are not the domestication of the laws that kicked against man’s inhumanity to women in the country.
Stressing that the major obstacle preventing the laws from seeing the lights of the day, is “implementation,” the council, under her leadership, she said would work tirelessly round the clock to ensure proper implementations of the laws.
The desire of women to be carried along, especially in the areas of appointments, she said, will continue to be on the front burner pending when such demands are met by those in positions of authority.
The council, as made known by her, will not stop its advocacy visits to relevant stakeholders and organizations, as well as agencies and departments.
Arguing that “if the laws are well implemented, there will be great reductions on violence against women in the country,” the council’s advocacy, she assured, “will continue under my leadership.”
While calling on women to actively participate in the forthcoming general elections slated to commence next month, she emphasized the need for them to eschew acts capable of soiling the good image of women and the country, before, during and after the polls.
Overwhelmed at the way and manner the foundation has been putting smiles on the faces of women and children across the state and the country, she said the council will collaborate with the foundation to catapult women to the height.
Earlier, the chairman Board of Trustees (BoT) of WACHEF, Dr Garba Danjuma, said the award conferred on Lau has become necessary to motivate women from the state and the country at large to aspire for positions of authority.
