Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State has abolished the extension of service by retiring civil servants in the state.
He said this was in the overall interest of the public.
In a letter signed by Secretary to the State Government, Prof Anthony Owan-Enoh, and dated June 2023, Gov Otu gave specific directives to those due or overdue for retirement and all political appointees of the former governor’s administration.
The letter reads in parts: “All extension of service by retired and or retiring officers in the state civil service/public service is hereby abolished in the public interest.
“All political appointees who are yet to hand over should immediately do so to the permanent secretaries or most senior directors without further delay.
“All those who have retired but are yet to vacate their offices/duty posts because of extension of service should hand over to heads of administration and proceed on retirement forthwith.”
