Ortom inaugurates mobile TB clinic for IDPs, hard to reach communities

The Benue State government has inaugurated a KNCV clinic for Tuberculosis treatment, known as “Wellness on Wheels” (WoW) truck services for TB case finding and fighting against the disease in the state.

Governor Samuel Ortom during the inauguration of the mobile TB clinic at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp 3 in Daudu, said the move was part of his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives of citizens, particularly in the area of healthcare.

The tuberculosis test truck contains a digital chest ex-ray machine to detect possible signs of the disease in a patient, a gene expert machine, which produces results from a specimen within two hours, a portable digital x-ray machine for non-motor able roads as well as biosafety cabinet to protect the machine operator.

Represented by, Engr Benson Abounu, Deputy Governor, the Benue State government said the portable digital x-ray (PDX) machine is to be used for targeted active case searches for TB within the communities and hard-to-reach locations.

He applauded the KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation Nigeria for bringing the intervention to the people’s doorsteps and assured that his administration will leave no stone unturned to make the programme successful in the state.

Dignitaries present at the inauguration were Dr Bethrand Odume, ED, KNCV TB Foundation, Nigeria, Benue State Commissioner for Health, Dr Joseph Ngbea, the host chairman Guma LGA, Mike Abu, the paramount ruler and council of chiefs, Guma LGA among others.
