Ogun Assembly passes N472.25bn 2023 appropriation bill

The Ogun State House of Assembly on Thursday passed the 2023 appropriation bill.

The lawmakers passed a total of N472,250,694,447.57 as the 2023 budget, as presented by Governor Dapo Abiodun almost one month ago.

However, the Assembly made some adjustments in the recurrent and capital estimates as well as the projected revenue in 31 areas across 26 agencies.

The passage of the bill followed a report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

The Chairman of the committee, Olakunle Sobunkanla, had moved the motion for the adoption of the report, seconded by his Vice, Ganiyu Oyedeji.

The report was subsequently supported by the Whole House through a unanimous voice vote.

At a plenary presided over by the Speaker, Olakunle Oluomo, the appropriation bill was read and adopted clause-by-clause by the Committee of Supply, which was presided over by the Speaker.

According to the report, the recurrent expenditures of 22 MDAs were reviewed while the capital expenses of four others were also adjusted.

With this, the proposed capital expenditure contained in the budget was reduced from N270, 411, 239,527 to N269,605,938,723.32.

Also, the recurrent expenditure was jerked up from N201.839bn to N202.644bn, an increment of N805.3m.

The Majority Leader, Yusuf Sheriff, had moved the motion for the third reading of the bill, seconded by the Deputy Speaker, Hakeem Balogun and supported by the Whole House while the Clerk/ Head of Legislative Service, Mr. Deji Adeyemo did the third reading of the bill before the members.

The Speaker directed that the clean copy of the bill be sent to Governor Abiodun for his assent.
