The Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has commended President Ahmed Bola Tinubu for his huge intervention in the revitalization of primary healthcare centres across the country, saying the effort has taken quality healthcare delivery to the door steps of rural dwellers.
Governor Ododo stated this on Friday during the commissioning of first phase of 80 revitalized primary health care facilities, stakeholders engagement meeting, state leadership challenge awards to local government areas and handing over of health equipment and commodities in Lokoja.
The Governor who stated that in the past Nigerians had jettison sectors that are very useful to the nation , lamented that agriculture, education and health among others have been abandoned for decades.
He noted that President Tinubu, because of his concern for the welfare of Nigerians through his Renew Hope Initiative has invested heavily in the revitalization of primary healthcare centres to take quality healthcare to the door steps of the rural communities.
“In the past rural communities had to rush with their sick ones to towns where they can asses health facilities and in most cases due to distance the sick persons died before reaching the hospital.
“Today the trend has been reversed as a result of massive investment in primary healthcare centres through the National Primary Health Development Agency. We are very grateful to the president and the agency” he stated.
While calling on chairmen of local government areas in the state to prioritize primary healthcare to ensure the rural communities enjoy quality healthcare, the Governor warned that government will not condone vandalization of facilities provided by government for the health centres.
In his speech the Executive Director National Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr Muyi Aina stated that the agency is saddled with the responsibility of developing primary health care services and infrastructure and systems for states, noting that it is the duty of the states and local government to own and run the facilities.
“At the state level and at the local government level you own the staff but we support you. So, all of the things that we bring is a support to supplement what you are doing at this level” he state.
The Executive Director commended Governor Ododo for his commitment toward ensuring that the centres served the rural dwellers.
The Commissioner for health Dr Abdulazeez Adams Adeiza in his speech , stated that in less than two years in office Governor Ododo was able to move the health sector forward through his commitment and investment in the sector.
Dr Adeiza who urged rural communities, traditional rulers to take ownership of the primary healthcare centres, called on health workers in the centres to put in their best in delivering quality healthcare to the people.
Earlier, in his speech the Executive Secretary Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Muazu Musa Omeiza, explained that the current administration of Alhaji Usman Ododo has taken quality healthcare to the door steps of the rural communities through massive investment in the revitalization of primary healthcare centre across the state.
He pointed out that few weeks ago the Governor distributed health facilities to the 80 completed primary healthcare centres in the state, noting that with the current effort put in place, the maternal morality rate would drop drastically in Kogi State.
