The Kogi State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, (NUT), has commended the Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for ending several years of ridiculous percentage payment of salaries to basic education teachers in the state.
The chairman of NUT in Kogi, Comrade Yakubu Dauda, who gave the commendation during a general assembly and prayer session organized by the Union to pray for the teachers and Government, however urged the teachers to be more committed their jobs, saying “to who much is given much is also expected”.
Speaking further the NUT chairman said “it is in the tradition of the NUT to commence her yearly activities with prayers to God Almighty for heavenly guidance, protection and blessings in all her endeavors.

According to him, what is symbolic about this year’s Solemn Assembly in Kogi State is the fact that “it is more of thanks giving to God and prayers for the Teacher’s messiah Comrade Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo the God sent Governor of Kogi State.
“The clergies have led us in prayers and we have no doubt that they are prayers answered by the most high God, and even as we pray for the Governor, his Loyal Deputy and other cabinet members, I want to reiterate that we remain eternally grateful and Loyal to His Excellency Comrade Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for unprecedented kind consideration to Primary School Teachers as follows:
The Chairman listed other kind gestures of the governor to the union to include, the nomination of the immediate past State Chairman of NUT Comrade Joel Salifu as Deputy Governor, acceding to the age long demand of the union in the implementation of 100% minimum wage to Teachers in the basic Education sub sector and bringing them at par with workers in the state civil service.
Others he said includes carrying Teachers along in the N72, 500 new minimum wage payment, Payment of September 2020 Salary arrears and up to date remittance of UBEC counterpart fund for provision of infrastructure and instructional materials in the sub sector.
Highlighting some of the challenges of members of the union, comrade Dauda called on the governor to cashback their promotions, implementation of incremental rates, employment of Teachers to address the acute shortage of manpower and training and retraining of Teachers.
Speaking further he said “Finally I have the mandate of all the teachers of Kogi state to declare this 26th Day of February 2025 that there is no vacancy in Lugard house until after 8 years of purposeful and God fearing leadership of His Excellency Comrade (Alh) Ahmed Usman Ododo..
