Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has dismissed reports of an alleged explosion around the old Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) site near the Terminus Market in Jos North Local Government Area.
Contrary to national media claims of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) detonation in the area, the governor confirmed that no explosion took place.
In a statement on Tuesday, November 12, Mutfwang addressed the public, clarifying that while there was a brief moment of alarm, it was only a precautionary response after an unidentified object was spotted, prompting the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit of the police to investigate.
“I’m glad to inform everyone that there was no bomb whatsoever,” Mutfwang stated.
The governor further urged responsible social media usage, cautioning against the spread of false information that could incite fear and conflict.
“Social media has become a tool of conflict creation and destabilization,” Mutfwang said.
