Nnamdi Kanu must not die in jail-Nigerian Activist warns FG

A political activist, Ayomipe Jatto, has claimed the immediate past All Progressives Congress-led government of former President Muhammadu Buhari passed a baton of militia character to President Bola Tinubu after keeping the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in prison for years.

The Activist tasked leaders of Igbo ethnic-nationality with togetherness in resolving the sit-at-home syndrome, which he described as a burning flame capable of hurting the region more.

He spoke on Sunday over the lingering controversy surrounding Kanu’s continued incarceration by the Department of State Service in Abuja, despite court pronouncement for his freedom.

Jatto insisted that the southeast region has turned into a war zone without any external aggressor but an enemy they created for themselves, now affecting other regions in the country because of a lack of unity.

He also noted that the southeast is a region at war with itself where innocent primary school children are attacked and Igbo markets set ablaze by loyalists of Nnamdi Kanu.

Jatto further warned that Kanu must not die in jail for seeking the independence of the Biafra Republic from Nigeria.

He said, “The release of Nnamdi Kanu was impossible despite the court order that allowed him go on bail, I urge President Bola Tinubu and the APC-led government to look into the issue.

“There are other pending cases on him in the courts of which only one granted him bail. Mr President needs to look into it speedily to avoid a civil war which may last for 7 months and 3 weeks as the great seer. The matter requires following a political solution from the presidency and talks with Eastern elites.

“The current action of bringing out school children, beating and molesting them; burning down of Amaraku market is inhuman and it will have much effect on the children mentally. Nigeria is killing itself and, unfortunately, will remain stagnant.

“The people in the southeast need to gather and speak with one voice while the people in the Diaspora that have been funding them, claiming that the Fulani herdsmen are killing their women are now regretting the outcome, it’s now clear to them that the Fulani is not the only threat in the south-east, rather the lack of unity in the south-east is the threat to itself.

On the sit-at-home order often issued by the pro-Biafra group in the southeast, Mr Jatto opined: “A massive protest is better than sitting at home, the Easterners can’t sit-at-home for one million years in the guise that they want Nnamdi Kanu out of prison, to me it is self-deceit because it is like one punishing his own children backwards which will affect the businesses of poor Igbos.

The southwest political activist urged President Bola Tinubu to grant freedom to the pro-Biafra secessionist, who he described as a strong leader in the southeast region, so as to restore peace and stability in the country.
