Salihu Lukman, a former National Vice Chairman (North West) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged Nigerians to rise against the ruling party and ensure the defeat of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general election.
In a statement on Thursday, Lukman criticized the current political system, calling for the creation of a functional party that respects internal democracy and is fundamentally different from existing parties, including the APC, PDP, LP, and NNPP.
Lukman stated, “The expectation of free, fair, and credible elections in 2027 may elude Nigerians unless we focus on building a political system that prioritizes democratic values. We must reject leaders who behave like emperors and ensure the emergence of truly democratic leadership.”
He condemned the current practice of candidates imposing party leaders who later secure their nominations, calling it a system that perpetuates the status quo.
For 2027, Lukmann stressed the importance of organizing a party that fosters internal competition and allows for merit-based leadership selection.
He expressed concern that without this shift, even defeating APC could fail to bring real change to Nigeria’s political landscape.
