Nigerian broadcaster breaks Guinness world record for longest talk show

Nigerian radio personality George Iniabasi Essien, popularly known as Mighty George, has broken the Guinness World Record for the longest marathon radio talk show.

Broadcasting live from Comfort 95.1 FM in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Mighty George surpassed the previous record of 88 hours, 8 seconds, set by Japan’s Taishi Masuoka in 2017.

Announcing the achievement on his X (formerly Twitter) page, George wrote:

“I have successfully smashed the Guinness World Record for the longest radio talk show, surpassing the previous record of 88 hours.

“After an incredible 88 hours, 8 seconds — and counting. Congratulations to me, the champion, as I proceed to set a new record of 100 hours.”

The accomplishment has sparked nationwide celebration, with Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, visiting the studio to personally commend Mighty George.

The governor praised the broadcaster’s tenacity and dedication, saying:
“This is not just my record — this is a win for everyone who believes in the power of voice and perseverance.”
