Niger State Governor Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has blamed the current security challenges ravaging the North on the lackadaisical attitude of some parents towards the upbringing of their children and wards.
Bello stated this at the 62nd Independence Day celebration programme at the Bako Kontagora Stadium, Minna.
Decrying the situation, he argued, “many parents in the region most times don’t know where their children sleeps and the kind of people they keep as friends. This situation has created a serious gap that usually ended up in an unpleasant consequences.”
He insisted that parents must collectively rise to the challenges of accepting their leadership role by ensuring that their children and wards are nurtured to become useful to themselves, their families, and society.
Going down memory lane, he maintained that in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s, Nigerians travelled any time and any day freely without worries.
The governor also noted that currently, Nigerians do not need to travel abroad for their medication and education, saying, “since we have all the standard facilities in the country, to my dismay, things kept changing for worst.”
Expressing optimism, Bello stated, “we can restore the good old days, if we collectively agree to work together for national growth and development.”
The governor added, “though this will be my last address to Nigerlites as a Governor to mark the Nation’s Independence, hope that the incoming administration will continue to organize similar anniversary celebration to ginger youths to be more committed to sustaining and promoting the onesss of Nigeria.”
