Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has become the second public figure to accuse Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment.
This follows a similar allegation made by Joy Nunieh, the former Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), in 2020.
Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, recently accused Akpabio of making inappropriate advances during a visit to his residence in Akwa Ibom State.
She alleged that the advances began on December 8, 2023, and continued in the Senate, where she claims Akpabio blocked her motions unless she accepted his demands.
Akpabio has denied these allegations, labelling them as baseless and politically motivated.
This controversy is similar to the incident involving Joy Nunieh, who accused Akpabio of sexual harassment during his tenure as Minister of Niger Delta Affairs.
Nunieh claimed that Akpabio made unwanted advances at his guest house in Abuja, which she resisted by slapping him. Akpabio denied the allegations as well, describing them as malicious and libellous.
The recent allegations have sparked a heated debate, with Akpoti-Uduaghan challenging security agencies to investigate her claims.
