Following the scarcity of fuel and cash crunch rocking the country, the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Osun State has appealed to the Federal Government to find lasting solutions to the ongoing crisis.
This appeal was made by the Council Chairman, Abdulazeez Ismail Abiodun in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer, Adetunji Ajala on Thursday in Osogbo.
The Council which noted that small and medium-scale businesses which the youth depended on have been closed due to the fuel and new Naira notes challenges bedevilling the country, added that urgent action needed to be taken as the general election nears.
The statement read, “If this suffering is not urgently addressed, it might lead to voter apathy, which is not good for our democracy.
“The Federal government shouldn’t wait until the whole nation is burnt down due to frustration and anger from the populace, as some states had already begun protests which have led to disruption of daily activities and vandalization of banks.
“We urge the state government, led by Governor Ademola Jackson Nurudeen Adeleke to also make effort to ease the pressure on the good people of Osun State before they react negatively to issues. Osun will be affected if the people join issues with trending challenges.
“We never want to witness the case of EndSARS in Osun State again, where innocent people’s properties were attacked and destroyed, alongside the attempt on the life of the former Governor and many lives were also affected.
“With the spate of hunger and hardship which the people are passing through, if no urgent action is taken it may lead to robbery and disruption of peace by the idle and pressured youths in the state.”
Abdulazeez hinted that the NYCN National headquarter had already called for a national warning protest but it was suspended as a means to avoid innocent people being attacked and to maintain the peace in the state.
The Council also called on prominent Nigerians to intervene and proffer solutions that will stem the rising challenges so that the general elections could go as peacefully as planned.
