Residents of Osogbo, the Osun State capital, have continued to experience scarcity of Naira notes even as the February 25 presidential and National Assembly elections have been concluded.
Majority of the banks operating in Osogbo only opened for business to attend to customers with different issues inside the bank while their Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) did not dispense cash.
On Monday, February 27, some banks did not open for business, while others that opened like Access Bank customers were allowed to withdraw the N20,000 daily withdrawal limit.
Also, Zenith Bank, it was observed, was dispensing cash to its customers.
Ismaila Adebayo, a bank customer while narrating his ordeal, lamented that he could not access the money he worked for.
“Is this how we will continue to suffer to have access to the money we worked for?
“Despite our patience and hope that after the elections things may change for the better, I don’t think there is any visible sign that we are going to smile soon.
“As I speak to you, I don’t have any money with me and there is no way I will go back home empty handed,” he said.
Also, Margareth Oladele, a Point Of Sale (POS) attendant, stated that business has been rough since the Naira scarcity hit the country.
“We are the ones mostly affected by this situation because our business has not been stable since this Naira scarcity started. How are we expected to cope when we have no other means of livelihood?” She lamented.
She implored the government to help find a solution to the problem because Nigerians were tired of living a life of frustration.
