N1.2b Fraud: ICPC Arraigns Two More REA Officials

The Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned two more officials of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) before a Federal High Court in Abuja.

The officials arraigned and remanded at the correctional centres are Emmanuel Pada Titus and Umar Musa Karaye.

Justice Emeka Nwite, who had earlier issued a bench warrant for the arrest of the two officials, including Henrietta Onomen Okojie following the arraignment of Usman Ahmed Kwakwa last week, lifted the order during the proceeding.

The court then fixed June 24 for the arraignment of Okojie.

The defendants were alleged to have sometime in March 2023 received various sums of money totalling N1.2 billion under the false pretence of project supervision for the REA.

Like Kwakwa, who was a personal assistant to the Director of Finance and Accounts, Abubakar Sambo, the defendants were alleged to have received the sum of N165 million in different tranches “For a purported project supervision exercise, contrary to and punishable under Section 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.”

In the four-count charge, the ICPC alleged that the defendants breached Section 68(1) of the Public Enterprise Regulatory Commission Act.

The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty.

Justice Emeka Nwite has fixed June 20 for ruling on bail and July 10 for trial.
