The Northeast Development Commission (NEDC) says it has trained 6,400 youths in vocational skills to enable them to learn trades and become self-reliant.
The NEDC Director of Operations, Alhaji Maiwada Omar said this in an interview in Yola on Tuesday.
He said that 3,000 youth had been exposed to enterprenuarship management; 1,800 trained in graphic design and 1,600 others in smart phone repaires.
The Commission, he said, established 18 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centers across 18 senatorial districts in the region.
According to Omar, the training is aim at enhancing job creation to make the beneficiaries self-reliant and productive members of the society.
“We provided the beneficiaries of different training programmes with seed capital and working tools to enable them to set up their businesses,” he said.
The director reitrated commitment of the Commission to provide humanitarian and other support services to enhance social and economic wellbeing of the people.
The Commission has awarded N6.3 billion contract for construction of 32 kilometer Garkida-Dabna road in Adamawa.
