My political detractors behind my ordeal — Hon. Halims

When the news of his parade on major national TVs by the Nigeria Police force with 15 others in alleged involvement in the buiness of ” Human Organ Harvest ” broke out , his supporters were stunned in disbelieve. A successful business man and a politician . A former member Kogi state House of Assembly representing Ankpa 1 state constituency and a serial contestant to the Federal House of Representatives for Ankpa/Olamaboro/ Omala constituency. Honourable Ibrahim Abdullahi Alih popularly called Halims said his travails was his rising political popularity. He bares his mind with ATABOR JULIUS kogi state Correspondent.

My name is Abdullahi Ibrahim Alih. I’m an indigene of Ankpa LGA of kogi state. I was born about 50 years ago to the family of Mallam Abdullahi Alih of Angwar Ogebe in Ankpa.

I attended Owele Islamic primary School, Ankpa and later to the famous Ochaja Boys Science Secondary School Ochaja and left the college in 1983.

I proceeded to the Collery Mining College Enugu. I was employed by the the Nigeria Coal Corporation Enugu and was sent to the training School as a Mining trainee and I graduated as a Mining Engineer in 1990.

As a mining Engineer , I was in charge of underground mine operations. I worked as mine overman, that is, a mine engineer incharge of mine operation in a discreet underground setup. Worked at both Okpara and Onyama Mine sites for many years as overman and underground Manager 1. I was transferred to Ankpa in 1995 to head Okaba Coal Mining before I resigned from the Corporation to concentrate on my businesses.

I have two licensed marketing companies. Halims Nigeria Investment and Ibra Petroleum and petrochemical company. These companies were registered by the Nigeria National Petroleum company( NNPC) to procure, and to sell petroleum and petrochemical products. These have been my major businesses until about 2006 when my friends forced me into politics. Prior to coming into politics, I have chains of filling stations and Hotels across major parts of this country. I have them in Benue, Nassarawa, FCT and Kogi states well over 18 years ago.

In 2006 I contested under the platform of the PDP and won the ticket to the Kogi state House of Assembly to represent Ankpa 1 state constituency. As a member I did marvelously well for my people. I attracted government presence to my constituency. Erosion menace in Ankpa was addressed. I brought development under the guise of ecological fund closed to #7bn to my constituency. I got over 250 youths into Civil Defence, Road Safety Corps, and tertiary institutions across the state. My people appreciate me and have been on my neck not to quit politics and that is the more reasons I ve been battling to win the House of Representatives elections for umpteen times.

I would have been returned to the House for the second term, but my desire to serve my people on a higher capacity and this is how i run into this trouble..

You were recently arrested for a crime which you and some other members were paraded by the police , what is your side of the story.

Politics , I didnt know it is this dirty as people said it is a dirty game. And because my intentions and determination are different from theirs, I looked at politics from the good side of it and this is my philosophy. I had never gone with thugs like some other politicians. I dont even use the police because I have a free mind. I dont presumed that somebody somewhere will attack me . When I won the the APC primary ticket , there were some events , even prior to the primary, I was hearing some set up that the Police were looking for me. I say well, if Police are looking for me they should know where to see me. Police cannot be looking for me and I heard through a grapevine and I will go to report myself. I’m not a criminal, and I have never taken part in any criminal activities. Check the whole police stations across the country you wouldnt see my name except this one. I have never partake in criminality nor influence any one to commit criminal activities.

So when this happened, and I was not involved in any crime., they arrested some people earlier and some people’s name were mentioned, mine was not. And of course, by common sense, If I have dealings with those people , I would have ran away.Ordinarily , when an armed robber is arrested the gang members will run away. I stayed here and since the police were looking for me , they will extend their invitation to me. I cannot go to the Police and say, I learnt you were looking for me. The police didnt arrest me from Portharcourt, Kano or Maiduguri , but from my house here.

If I had committed any crime and I know any of the people arrested the simple thing to do is to run away. Infact I have no reasons to run away and the police in their common sense knows I was not involved., it was simply a matter of set up. This comes from the fears that I have won the primary and we are going to meet them at the general election. It is not by cutting corners and criminal activities to win election.

I’m confident to win the election no matter their persecution, intimidation and cooked up stories against me. My people loves me. you need to be in Ankpa on Saturday when I went home from the police custody. You will be surprised for the mamoth crowd that came to welcome me. Infact I shed tears . I swore to the holy Quran to show my innocence of the crime they are crucifying me for.I’m a dedicated muslim, so also my parents. God is my witness and I know that my swearing to the Holy Quran is sufficient for the people to believe me.

From what you are saying it seems you know some of your accusers.

I know them. All their plans are in my palms. They are planning more and I know it. They are cooking up more stories but we shall overcome them. At an appropriate time , since the matter is in court I dont want to preempt. Once the process is concluded, they will realise that they were only holding the door for me.

You kept repeating those people, are they from your party APC..

This set up is in two ways. Even when the PDP was holding its primary election, I over heard it somewhere. They said whom will they elect to challenge Halims for them. There was a side talk that Halims has already been roped.PDP had already set up their plans against me and the man I contested APC primary with one Abduljelil Momoh, claimed he is a friend to some officers. He sponsored all publications to discredit me so that he could be given the opportunity to be the candidate of the APC. And of course I’ m just a suspect, I have not been convicted in any court of law and he should know that unless im convicted and not by name calling.

Has the Ankpa Elders, leaders and stakeholders ever condemned the crime that you are being held.

Yes, when I was in the Assembly, in my capacity as a member representing Ankpa 1. I did sponsored bills and motions that actually brought government intervention and control of cult and cultism in Ankpa. But when I left the Assembly, you know , we speak with authority, but now I have no authority, I was only minding my business.

Dont you think this indictment will smear your chances in the forthcoming election.

No body has smeared my reputation. All I know is that smearing of an image is dependent on one’s conviction. I’m not a criminal and people’s perception cannot affect me. I have not been convinced since my incaceration that I will be convicted. There are no sufficient evidence to prove what they are saying. It is just mere allegation. In fact somebody sponsored a criminal in the cell to mention my name. I have been a very successful businessman spanning over three decades. Whatever that is happening to me now proved that there are evil people in our society.

Advice for supporters.

I urged them to remain calm and peaceful and supportive of this Administration.I have told them that if truly they loves me they should give their maximum support for the administration so that we can succeed together.
> > The greatest asset I have is the people. I may not have money like others but I have the people and this is their fears.

2019 election: Pharaoh let my people go – Agbaje blasts Tinubu

Jimi Agbaje

Jimi Agbaje

The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, has described a National Leader of the All Progressives Cobgress, APC, Bolaji Ahmed Tinubu as “Pharoah.”

Agbaje was responding to Tinubu, who during the week, mocked him for adopting the ‘freedom’ slogan for his 2019 aspiration.

DAILY POST recalls that while addressing members of the APC on Monday, said, “Those who said they want freedom should go and learn tailoring and vulcanising and we will do freedom for them later.”

But in a statement on Tuesday, the PDP flag bearer likened Tinubu to the biblical Pharaoh of Egypt who refused to allow the children of Israel to leave.

His statement said, “Pharaoh, you must let our people go!

“Apparently, the APC leader has lost touch with reality.”

Agbaje’s statement was signed by his Director of Media and Publicity, Felix Oboagwina.

“Otherwise, he would know that, like the children of Israel, Lagosians are groaning under the taskmaster that Tinubu and his cronies have turned themselves into in this state that should rate as Nigeria’s foremost,” he added.

Agbaje said Lagosians would be liberated after the people might have delivered an electoral disgrace to the APC in 2019.

He said, “We identify with our vulcanisers, tailors and all craftsmen who have the joy of duly-earned freedom after their apprenticeship.

“But it is apparent that, unlike them, those who have gotten used to filthy lucre and the dividends of corruption cannot savour the joy that comes with the legitimate sweat and labour of hardworking artisans.”
