Mechanic docked for allegedly stealing customer’s vehicle

A 29-year-old mechanic, Opeyemi Moses, was on Thursday docked in an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly stealing a Toyota Corolla belonging to a customer worth N2.5million.

Moses, who resides at Imope Street, Adamo, Ikorodu, Lagos, is charged with theft.

He pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Bassey Sunday, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 7 at 9 a.m. at No 19 Adisa Akintoye Str., Alapere, Ketu, Lagos.

Sunday said that the defendant stole the car with Registration Number KSF 539 GA belonging to the complainant, Mr Livinus Ekere.

He said that the defendant stole the car from a mechanic workshop where he worked.

Sunday said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

According to reports, the section stipulates three years imprisonment for stealing.

The Magistrate, Mrs O.A Daodu, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Daodu adjourned the case until May 8 for trial.
