The Kogi State Government, in collaboration with Stop TB Partnership Nigeria, has initiated a revitalized effort to combat tuberculosis (TB) within the state.
Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo, the Wife of the Kogi State Governor, who was appointed as the TB Champion for Kogi State, pledged to mobilize support and resources to eradicate TB, stressing the importance of collective action in raising awareness and ensuring effective treatment.
Hajia Ododo after taken on the role of TB Champion of Peace, called upon local government chairmen and their spouses to serve as local TB champions.
She officially launched the TB champion campaign and sensitization program in Kogi State.
Dr. Abdulazeez Adeiza Adams, the Commissioner for Health, reaffirmed the state government’s dedication to healthcare excellence.
He has highlighted the progress made in TB control and the partnerships established with global organizations.
Dr. Adams has emphasized the state’s investments in the health sector, including the enhancement of hospitals and health centers that provide TB treatments.
He has commended the governor’s wife for leading the efforts to combat TB and has praised Stop TB Partnership Nigeria for its relentless work since 2006 to eliminate TB in Nigeria.
Dr. Adams acknowledged the President’s commitment to healthcare and the state’s initiatives under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to revitalize primary healthcare centers.
Dr. Barnabas Segun Isaac, the Acting Permanent Secretary, described TB as a significant public health challenge, underscoring the importance of awareness and early detection. He has highlighted the impact of TB on individuals with weakened immune systems and its symptoms, such as persistent cough.
Dr. Komolafe Rotimi, the Program Manager of Stop TB Partnership Nigeria, expressed gratitude to partners and the First Lady for their leadership in the campaign against TB.
He has emphasized that TB is primarily airborne and spreads from person to person.
Goodwill messages were delivered by development partners, including WHO, ARFH, INGRA, CIHP, and AHF.
The event marked a significant milestone in Kogi State’s efforts to combat TB, with renewed commitment and collective efforts poised to drive positive change.
