The Kogi Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project, on Monday, called on stakeholders to collaborate with the agency in it’s drive to improve and strengthened girl child education in the state .
The stakeholders’ engagement comprised of the media, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and other key stakeholders assembled to chat the way forward and improve the education sector, particularly, the education of the adolescent girls.
Speaking at the the stakeholder’s engagement held at the Glass House Lokoja, the State Project Coordinator, Dr. Abdulhameed Bello, said the meeting which was in continuation of its advocacy and Sensitization programme, was aimed at facilitating a collaborative discussion on the current state of education in Kogi State, and further chart a way forward for its improvement.
The SPC noted that Stakeholders’ engagements are crucial for the successful implementation of the objects of the project, emphasizing that the Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo-led administration has embarked on programs to revamp education in the state.
Dr. Abdulhameed Bello stressed the need for collective efforts in transforming the education sector, by empowering vulnerable children, from disadvantaged backgrounds, to have the same educational opportunities as those from vintaged families.
The State Project Coordinator explained further that the project is targeted at providing the girl-child with the necessary and requisite education, knowledge and skills throughout her secondary school life.
Dr. Bello maintained that the meeting would play a vital role in repositioning the education sector, vis-a-vis policies, programs and infrastructural initiatives that will enhance teaching and learning in the state.
The SPC highlighted some of the initiatives of the Project, such as the construction of new schools within existing Government Secondary Schools, Renovation of all Secondary Schools across the state, equipping select schools across the 3 Senatorial districts with computer laboratories, capacity training for the girl-child.
He appealed for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to ensure the smooth implementation of the AGILE project in the state.
“We need the collective support and collaboration of all stakeholders to ensure the seamless implementation of this project across Kogi State. This initiative is not just about building structures; it is about shaping the future of our girls by equipping them with knowledge, skills, and character to navigate adulthood successfully.”
Dr. Bello charged the media to report accurately on the activities of the Project ensuring that the public is well informed about its objectives, noting that as gatekeepers, the media is crucial in holding the Agency accountable.
Speaking, the Project’s Media and Communication Director, Bishop Aturu, harped on the importance of accurate and reliable data to aid effective planning and ensure a smooth implementation process.
“We are seeking the buy-in and support of various stakeholders, including parents, teachers, communities, religious and traditional leaders, media organizations, and NGOs.
Their involvement will help us address potential challenges, enhance community engagement, and ensure that key messages reach the grassroots.”
During the forum, stakeholders shared ideas on how to address the challenges facing the education sector, including infrastructure deficits, training and retraining of teachers, and curriculum development.
“We recognize that education is a critical component of human development, and we cannot achieve meaningful progress without the active participation of all stakeholders,” some stakeholders said..
Media practitioners and CSOs pledged their support for AGILE’s initiatives, committing to amplify the agency’s efforts and provide constructive feedback to ensure the success of the education sector reform.
The stakeholders’ forum marked a significant step towards revitalizing Kogi State’s education sector, demonstrating the government’s commitment to collaborative governance and inclusive development.
With the input and support of stakeholders, AGILE is poised to drive meaningful reforms and improvements in the education sector, ultimately enhancing the lives of Kogi State’s citizens.
