Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami organised a discussion meeting and special prayer programme in Gangni Upazila of Meherpur district on Wednesday to observe Genocide Day 2026 with appropriate dignity and solemnity.
The event was held at 4:30 pm at the Chougaacha Darul Yatim Jame Mosque in Gangni Upazila.
Mr Md Robiul Islam, Ameer of Gangni Upazila Jamaat-e-Islami, presided over the programme, which was moderated by Maulana Md Oyas Karuni Jamil, Secretary of the Gangni municipal Jamaat unit.
Chief Guest Maulana Md Taj Uddin Khan, Member of Parliament for the 73-Meherpur-1 constituency and Ameer of Meherpur district Jamaat-e-Islami, delivered the main address.
Special guests included Mr Md Nazmul Huda, MP for the 74-Meherpur-2 (Gangni) constituency; Mr Md Iqbal Hossain, Secretary of Meherpur district Jamaat-e-Islami; and Mr Mu Alam Husain, Chairman of Kazipur Union in Gangni Upazila.
Speakers highlighted the brutality of the March 25 Genocide and paid deep respect to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation. They described the day as a profoundly painful chapter in Bangladesh’s history and stressed the need for the entire nation to draw lessons from this tragedy and work unitedly for the country’s development and progress.
Senior leaders, full members (rukon), workers and local officials of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami from Gangni Upazila and municipal branches also attended the programme.
The discussion meeting concluded with a special dua and munajat seeking the welfare of the country and the nation, the unity and progress of the Muslim Ummah, and the forgiveness of the souls of the martyrs.
