Former Chelsea midfielder, Cesc Fabregas, has given his verdict on the Blues, refusing to rule out the possibility of the West London club challenging for the Premier League title next season.
Chelsea currently sit in the 12th position on the Premier League table, just nine points above the relegation zone following a disastrous season in which they have changed two head coaches.
But Fabregas believes Chelsea can challenge for the Premier League title next year, insisting that when their former manager Jose Mourinho left, Antonio Conte came and won the title against the likes of Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp.
“Let’s not forget something, six years ago we had a really bad season with Chelsea, we finished 10th, if I remember correctly. Jose Mourinho left, Hiddink came, he started to play younger players – Loftus-Cheek, Christiansen, Tammy Abraham – to give them experience for the next year,” Fabregas told Sky Sports.
“I remember in April they signed Conte, who came to the training ground, spoke to us individually, planned what he wanted to do with us to start afresh and next season we won the Premier League.
“Against Guardiola, against Klopp, against Mourinho at Manchester United. It’s not impossible.
“I know you will tell me there are a lot of new players, it is difficult, but this happened six years ago and I was there – I lived it. If you bring someone in with experience, with the character, who can put everyone together, who can give clear ideas of what he wants to do and works hard to bring everyone on board, it’s doable.”
