The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has dismissed a viral “wanted” poster of Nollywood actress and entrepreneur, Iyabo Ojo.
The poster, which circulated on social media, claimed the actress was declared wanted and that a reward had been offered for information leading to her arrest.
In a statement on its verified Facebook page on Thursday, the police described the poster as fake and misleading.
The statement read: “Fake news alert! This ‘wanted’ poster of actress Iyabo Ojo did not emanate from the Nigeria Police Force.
“It is false, misleading and was never posted on any official NPF platform.
Disregard and stop spreading fake news. Verify only from official NPF channels.”
The Force urged Nigerians to ignore the poster and desist from sharing such false content.
The fake bulletin that Iyabo Ojo is wanted, which went viral across various platforms, had sparked outrage and confusion, with many questioning its authenticity.
This clarification comes amid growing concerns over the use of forged documents and fake press statements to smear public figures and mislead the public.
