ICPC raids El-Rufai’s house amid corruption saga

‎Operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on Thursday, carried out searches at the residence of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

‎The development was confirmed in a statement issued by the media adviser to El-Rufai, Muyiwa Adekeye.

‎One of El-Rufai’s lawyers, Ubong Akpan, also condemned the search, describing it as “unlawful, and a clear violation of legal procedures and fundamental rights.”

‎It would be recalled that the ICPC confirmed that El-Rufai was taken into custody on Wednesday night for questioning after he was released on bail by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

‎In a statement signed by the Commission’s Head of Media and Public Communications, Mr. J. Okor Odey, the ICPC said El-Rufai remained with the commission as of the close of work on February 18, 2026.

‎The statement reads, “The Commission wishes to state that Malam Nasiru El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, is in our custody as at the close of work today, Wednesday, the 18th day of February, 2026.

‎“He is in the custody of the Commission in connection with ongoing investigations.”

‎While the agency did not disclose details of the investigation, it said further updates would be provided in line with its mandate and procedures.

‎“The Commission remains guided by the rule of law and assures the public that investigations are being conducted professionally and without prejudice,” the statement added.
