High turnout of students as schools resume for 2nd term in Ibadan

Schools in Ibadan metropolis, on Monday, recorded high turnout of students, as academic activities commenced for the second term of the 2022/2023 session.

According to reports, students in both public and private schools were seen in their various schools as early as 7 a.m.

Some of the schools visited included: Oluyole Private School, Rhema Chapel International College, Christ Ambassadors International School and Oba Akinbiyi Model School.

Others were: Islamic Model School, Bashorun, Oba Akinyele Grammar School, St. Louis School, St. Patrick School, Ikolaba High School and Ikolaba Primary School, all within Ibadan city.

Also that teachers were on ground to receive the students, while some were seen cleaning the school premises, preparatory to commencement of classes.

The School Administrator, Rhema Chapel International College, Mrs Nike Mabinuori, appreciated God for the end of 2022 and the beginning of the new year.

“By God’s grace, we are focusing on improved academic performance this term, and a lot has been put in place to ensure that the students excel in their academics.

“We want to guard against moral decadence which is all over now. Every school has its own share of it and we are going to teach and counsel our student to be on the right track,” Mabinuori said.

She urged parents to always assist the school by being alive to their own responsibilities and support the efforts of the school in training their wards and moulding their characters for a bright future.

Also report has it, Dr Mary Odedare, Chairman, National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS), Oyo State branch, said that her members were ready, as everything had been put in place, with staff members in every school ready to discharge their duties.

“We know that economically, it is not easy but we pray to God that things will be easier for various families this year,” he said.

On the alleged attempts by some private schools in the state to increase school fees, Odedare, said that the association was not in position to determine whether school fees should be increased or not.

“Determining whether school fees should be increased or not by our members is not within the purview of this association.

“However, looking critically at the whole situation, I’m of the opinion that if anything is going to be increased, it should not be now,” she said.
