By Dhaka Correspondent, Bangladesh:
The funeral prayers of July fighter and Inqilab Manch spokesperson Osman Hadi were held at Manik Mia Avenue, with the participation of Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus, members of the Advisory Council, leaders of various political parties, and hundreds of thousands of people from all walks of life.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Adviser said that people had gathered there in waves, with crowds continuing to arrive along the roads. Across Bangladesh, he said, tens of millions of people were waiting for this moment, looking toward it and wanting to hear about Hadi. Bangladeshis living abroad, he added, were also eager at this moment to know about Hadi. “Dear Osman Hadi, we have not come here to bid you farewell. You are within our hearts, and as long as Bangladesh exists, you will remain in the hearts of all Bangladeshis,” he said.
Dr Yunus further stated, “We have not come today to say goodbye to you, dear Hadi. We have come to make a promise to you. We have gathered to pledge that we will fulfill what you spoke of and stood for. That promise will not be upheld by us alone; generation after generation, the people of Bangladesh will carry it forward. It is for that pledge that we have come to you today.”
Addressing Hadi, he said that people everywhere were praising his love for humanity, his demeanor, his way of interacting with people, and his political outlook. “We accept these values deeply within our hearts so that they remain alive in our minds at all times and so that we can follow them,” he added.
Earlier on Saturday (December 20), at around 2:15 pm, Hadi’s funeral prayers were held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. The prayers were led by his elder brother, Maulana Abu Bakar.
