Hackers have taken over the official Facebook page of the Kano State Hisbah Board and posted inappropriate and explicit media content.
The incident, which happened on Wednesday, has continued to attract condemnation from members of the public over the ugly trend.
A Facebook user, Anisa Sani reacting said; “Ah Subhanallahi this hacker U aren’t trying at all, how can u hack an account like dis with a good reputation and be posting such nonsense.”
Another user Abbas Abubakar Jos wrote; “Hisbah should put his social media department into the hands of experts on internet affairs, to avoid this kind of hacking that bad people are doing to the department.”
Unwana Umoinwang said; “This incident shows how vulnerable even government bodies are to cyber-attacks. It’s a serious wake-up call for better cybersecurity measures across all official platforms.”
@Isthisjohnson, an X user wrote; “Wow, the Hisbah page getting hacked? That’s like the ultimate plot twist! Guess even they can’t escape the chaos of the internet!’
Meanwhile, the Commander General of the Board, Sheikh Aminu Daurawa, reacting to the development on Friday said the board had addressed the situation.
Kano State Hisbah Board is aware that its Facebook page has been hacked and inappropriate things are being shared. On behalf of the board, I call on people to help solve this problem.”
He assured the public that the board’s ICT department is actively working to restore the page and is engaged in discussions with Meta to resolve the issue.
He urged the community to report the hacked page to Meta in English to help prevent further dissemination of inappropriate content.
The Head of ICT at the Hisbah Board, Sani Zailani, noted that the account has experienced previous hacks and that Meta has been contacted regarding the latest breach, adding that Meta has pledged to resolve the issue within 48 hours.
He expressed appreciation for the support and concern shown by the public, emphasizing ongoing efforts to recover the page and regain control.
This is coming days after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC’s X handle was restored after being allegedly hacked by suspected internet fraudsters otherwise known as Yahoo boys.
