Gangni Press Club in Bangladesh Forms New Committee

Located in Gangni upazila of Meherpur district, Bangladesh, the historic Gangni Press Club has been playing a pivotal role in promoting local journalism and media activities for nearly four decades. Established in 1986, it remains the only historically significant press institution in the upazila, bringing together local journalists and fostering professional collaboration.

On Wednesday, July 9, 2025, the biennial executive committee of the Gangni Press Club was officially reconstituted. Mr. Touhid-Ud-Doula Reza, district correspondent of The Daily Shomoyer Alo, has been re-elected as President, while Mr. Mahabub Alam, district correspondent of Bonik Barta, has been re-elected as General Secretary. Both had held the same positions in the previous committee.

The new committee was announced during a formal meeting held at the Gangni Press Club office in Meherpur. Presided over by Mr. Touhid-Ud-Doula Reza, the meeting included the presentation of the club’s annual income and expenditure report. Additionally, six members were granted full membership of the club. With the unanimous consent of the members present, the existing committee was retained for another two-year term.

The other members of the committee include Majnur Rahman Akash (Jaijaidin) as Vice President, Jurais Islam (Bhorer Dak) as Joint Secretary, Taherul Islam Tapon (Bangladesh Barta) as Treasurer, Mizanur Rahman as Organizing Secretary, and Jinarul Islam Dipu as Office Secretary.

The meeting was attended by prominent media personnel, including Majedul Haque Manik, General Secretary of Meherpur Press Club and RTV district correspondent; Nuhu Bangali of Desher Kantho; Reza An Ul Bashar Taposh of NTV; former President of Gangni Press Club Ramzan Ali; and senior journalists S.M. Rafiqul Alam Bakul, Mir Shamim, and Shaheen Ahmed. Members of various print and electronic media outlets were also present.
