The lingering feud between the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, and the national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Senator Musa Kwankwaso, took another dimension on Friday when both politicians avoided eye contact despite sitting close to each other at the wedding of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s daughter, Laila, in Abuja.
The conjugal ceremony, which took place between Laila and Saleh Maitala, son of the immediate past minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, was held at the National Mosque today.
The wedding comes two days after Atiku received a delegation led by former Kaduna State governor, Nasiru El-Rufai, who came to formally request the hand of his daughter in marriage.
On Friday, the National Mosque witnessed a massive turnout of political bigwigs who trooped for the matrimony.
In attendance were ex-Head of State, Abdulasami Abubakar; former governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa), Murtala Nyako (Adamawa), Ali Modu Sheriff (Borno), Ibrahim Shekarau (Kano) and Adamu Muazu (Bauchi).
Others include the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Umar Damagum; the senator representing Bauchi Central, Abdul Ningi; Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Col. Buba Marwa (retd.), among others.
The high point of the event was when both Ganduje and Kwankwaso spotted each other and immediately looked away.
When it was time for prayer, both politicians squatted not too close to each other.
They were sandwiched in-between the trio of Marwa, Abdulasami and Sheriff.
Efforts to get reactions from the politicians after the ceremony were unsuccessful as they drove out of the venue, followed by their entourage.
