Residents of Dampar community in Ibi Local Government Council of Taraba State, are again counting their losses as a result of the havoc wreaked on the community by flood.
The flood, which was necessitated by a heavy downpour that lasted for several hours, was observed to have led to the destruction of properties worth millions of naira.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, was also observed to have rendered some persons in the community homeless, majority who are now taking refuge in public places.
Recounting their ordeals, some of the victims who bared their minds to Newsmen, passionately begged the state and federal government to as a matter of urgency come to their rescue.
The victims who listed the items swept away by the flood, expressed sadness that they are presently left with no single belonging.
Aligning his weight to those of his subjects, the traditional ruler of the community, Hashimu Adinga, described the flood as “very unfortunate”.
Soliciting for the immediate presence of relevant government agencies in the community, the state government alone, as made known by him, can not cushion the untold hardships the flood has spread on the faces of the people of the community, hence the need for the federal government to wade in.
He also called for the immediate construction of drainages and culverts around the community.
The call, if urgently adhered to, he believed would go a long way to halt the recurrence of the flood which always occurred in every raining season.
