The federal government has initiated plans to evacuate Nigerians in Lebanon due to escalating hostilities between Israel and Iran.
Dada Olusegun, the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, announced the arrangements on Tuesday, urging the diaspora community in Lebanon to contact the Nigerian mission for necessary documentation.
In a tweet from his handle, @DOlusegun, he stated, “All Nigerians in Lebanon are urged to get in touch with the Nigerian mission for profiling, documentation and subsequent evacuation.”
Reports indicate that over 5,000 Nigerians reside in Lebanon, prompting the government to act swiftly as tensions rise.
The situation intensified on Tuesday when Iran launched 180 ballistic missiles at Israel, retaliating for the recent killings of Hezbollah leaders.
In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to respond “severely” to any threats against Israel’s sovereignty.
As the conflict escalates, international calls for de-escalation have emerged, with China and Saudi Arabia urging involved parties to return to dialogue and avoid further escalation in the Middle East.
